Areas of Legal Advice We Offer

Legal Aid of East Tennessee helps people with many types of civil legal problems. Our staff listens, explains your options, and offers advice to people who qualify for free help. These services can make a difference when you are dealing with issues that affect your family, home, health, or safety.

We work with partners across East Tennessee to reach people who need legal support. This includes Family Justice Centers and Mental Health Legal Partnerships, where our team helps people facing serious challenges. These programs make it easier to get legal advice in places where many people already go for help. The sections below show the main areas where we offer guidance.

services for survivors
Family Justice Centers

LAET provides services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking through offices at four family justice centers in our service area. If you need help in obtaining an order of protection against an abuser, or have other legal issues related to abuse, call the closest family justice center in your area.

If you are experiencing domestic violence and are in immediate danger, call 911.

You may seek an Order of Protection, if you are a victim of domestic abuse or violence. Contact your county’s Circuit Court or General Sessions Court Clerk’s office. You should also contact law enforcement.
